The Queer Language of Flowers is a collection of essays and illustrations inspired by Victorian-era flower dictionaries and queer flagging. The zine is risograph printed and includes 16 of my original botanical illustrations accompanying essays by myself and my co-writer, L.M. Zoller.

Design & Production

In addition to illustration, I was also responsible for page layouts, typography, and getting the entire piece print-ready. I worked with Paper Press Punch, a risograph print studio in Seattle, throughout printing and production.

Reception

This little self-published zine has sold over 800 copies and has had four reprints so far. Our primary distributor, Emerald Comics Distro, has a hard time keeping them on the shelves at local bookstores because they sell out so quickly. The Queer Language of Flowers has also been added to several prominent zine libraries in the U.S., including RISD, Barnard, and the Multnomah County Library system, and was featured in the Sequential Self art show in Mesquite, TX (2019) and Stephenville, TX (2020).
